Raves for new TED-ED

The TED video site has established quite a name for itself with insightful, intelligent, concise 18-20 minute videos on a variety of topics keying on the fields of technology, education and design. Recently the website surpassed the total of over 1 billion views.

Seeking to educate and develop a younger audience. TED-ED was born to achieve this goal and has already surpassed 10 million page views.

TED-Ed’s commitment to creating lessons worth sharing is an extension of TED’s mission of spreading great ideas. Within the growing TED-Ed video library, you will find carefully curated educational videos, many of which represent collaborations between talented educators and animators nominated through the TED-Ed platform. This platform also allows users to take any useful educational video, not just TED's, and easily create a customized lesson around the video. Users can distribute the lessons, publicly or privately, and track their impact on the world, a class, or an individual student.

Introducing the New Online Video Library

The new online video libary provides access to over 9000 educational videos that support grades P-12.

It is accessed via the new Eduportal https://edapps.ednet.ns.ca/eduportal/Login.aspx which is a gateway to access the this new online library and many other services provided by the Nova Scotia Department of Education.

Teachers currently have access to the Eduportal, they simply need to access the site and set up their accounts - and provide some basic information such as Employee ID (found on pay stub), Last name, firstname, birthdate, email, board, home school and position.

Some of the other offerings of Eduportal are access to EBSCO, Jobs People do, Nova Scotia Virtual High School, Moodle, and video conferencing.

This online site appears to be a very promising, and has the capability to download the videos to provide quicker access to the videos without the limitations of streaming.  Video may be filtered by subject area, grade level and media format and in many cases teacher resources, provincial standards and citations may be included with the video.

For further information feel free to stop by the library.
